Legal
Terms
The code is GPLv2, so you have broad freedom with it. What you are buying is a year of updates and support, plus the right to use the paid features on a set number of sites.
Last updated: 30 August 2026
1. What you are buying
A licence gives you, for twelve months from purchase:
- The right to use the Pro or Agency features.
- Automatic plugin updates.
- Email support.
It is a licence to use the software, not a transfer of ownership. AltGenie and its branding remain ours.
2. Site limits
A Pro licence activates on one production site. An Agency licence activates on an unlimited number of sites that you or your agency build, own or maintain for clients.
Staging and local development copies of a licensed site do not count against your limit. You can move a licence freely — clear the key on the old site, then enter it on the new one.
“Unlimited” does not extend to redistribution. You may not bundle AltGenie into a theme, plugin or product that you sell or give away. If that is what you need, talk to us and we will arrange proper terms.
3. The GPL, and what it means here
AltGenie’s PHP is licensed under the GPL v2 or later, as WordPress plugins must be. That grants you the freedom to inspect, modify and redistribute the code itself.
Your licence key, updates and support are separate commercial services and are not covered by the GPL. Sharing a key so others can avoid buying one breaches these terms and we may deactivate it.
4. Renewals and cancellation
Licences renew annually so updates and support do not lapse. Cancel any time from the link in your purchase email — cancelling stops the next charge, it does not end the term you have paid for.
If a licence lapses the plugin keeps working and your descriptions stay on your site. What stops is updates, paid features and support.
5. AI provider costs are yours
AltGenie sends requests to the provider whose key you configured. That usage is billed by OpenAI or Google directly to your own account under your agreement with them. We do not resell it, mark it up, or take a share — and equally, we are not responsible for it.
You are responsible for keeping your API keys secure and for any spend on your provider account.
6. What we don’t promise
AI-generated descriptions come from a third-party model and are not guaranteed to be accurate, complete or suitable for any particular purpose. They should be reviewed — which is why the plugin ships with version history, quality scoring and a review queue.
AltGenie helps you improve image accessibility. It does not by itself make a site compliant with WCAG, the ADA, the European Accessibility Act or any other standard, and nothing here is a warranty of compliance. Accessibility is a property of your whole site, not one plugin.
The software is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence in the twelve months before the claim.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not use AltGenie to:
- Generate descriptions of illegal content.
- Deliberately produce misleading alt text — for instance keyword-stuffing that misrepresents an image to search engines or screen-reader users.
- Circumvent licence checks, or help others do so.
8. Payments
Purchases are processed by LemonSqueezy as merchant of record, handling billing and applicable sales tax or VAT. Their terms apply to the transaction. Prices are in USD and may change; a change never affects a term you have already paid for.
9. Changes to these terms
Material changes are reflected in the date above and noted in the release notes. If a change is unacceptable to you, you may cancel — and if it lands mid-term, ask us about a pro-rated refund.
