1. Overview
AltGenie is a WordPress plugin that generates image alt text using AI. Depending on how you configure it, your data is processed by different parties. This policy explains what is sent where.
2. Your images and metadata
When you generate alt text, AltGenie sends your image — and optionally its metadata (page title, excerpt, SEO keyword, taxonomy, WooCommerce product data, EXIF/IPTC data if enabled) — to whichever AI provider you have configured: OpenAI (GPT-4o Vision), Google Gemini, or Google Cloud Vision. That provider processes the image to generate a description.
AltGenie itself does not store your images on its own servers during generation. The generated alt text is saved to your WordPress database, on your own site.
Your use of each provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to send your images to your chosen provider.
3. Your API keys
If you use bring-your-own-key (BYOK) mode, your API key for your chosen provider is stored in your WordPress database, encrypted at rest. It is used only to authenticate requests to that provider. AltGenie does not transmit your API key to AltGenie's own servers in BYOK mode.
4. Managed plan and direct licenses
If you use a managed plan or a direct Pro/Agency license (purchased through LemonSqueezy), license and site data — including your license key, your site URL, and basic plugin status — are sent to AltGenie's own servers for license validation and entitlement checks. Payment data is handled by LemonSqueezy and is not stored by AltGenie.
5. What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not use your images to train models. We do not share your generated alt text with third parties. In BYOK mode, your images go only to your chosen provider, not to us.
6. Analytics
The free plugin on WordPress.org does not phone home with usage analytics. The managed plan and direct license send only the license and site data described in section 4.
7. Your choices
You can use AltGenie entirely in BYOK mode, in which case your images go only to your chosen provider and no data reaches AltGenie's servers. You can use Demo Mode, which generates sample descriptions without sending images to any provider. You can disable EXIF/IPTC-aware prompts if you do not want metadata sent.
